Consumer Assistance Program – Vehicle Retirement

Funding:

First-come, first-serve program. Consumers of may be able to receive $1,000 or $1,500 to retire their operational vehicle at a BAR-contracted dismantler site.

Date:

Open to new applications. Participation is based on meeting the requirements and funding availability each fiscal year (July 1 to June 30th).

Summary:

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) offers eligible consumers repair assistance and retirement options to help improve the state’s air quality. The Vehicle Retirement plan provides qualifying consumers with either a $1,000 or $1,500 for retiring their operational high emission vehicle.

Qualified Vehicles:

Operational motor vehicles.

Requirements:

· For either the $1,000 or $1,500 incentive, the applicant must meet the household income requirements.

· The vehicle being retire must be in operational conditions prior to the application.

· Any emission-related repairs performed on the vehicle or retired vehicle before the application is approved will not be reimbursed by the BAR.

· The vehicle must be retired at a BAR-contracted dismantler.
