Summary:
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021 authorizes EPA to offer rebates to replace existing school buses with clean and zero-emission (ZE) models. The Clean School Bus Program will be providing over the next five years (FY 2022-2026) $5 billion for their replacement.
Qualifying Bus Replacements:
· Battery-electric
· CNG
· Propane Drivetrain
Requirements:
· Eligible applicants: State/local governmental entities, public school districts (including charter schools), *eligible contractors, nonprofit school transportation associations, and Indian tribes/tribal organizations
· Vehicle model year 2010 or older diesel-powered school buses that will be scrapped if selected for funding
· Have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs.
· Be operational at the time of application submission
· Have provided bus service to a public school district for at least 3 days/week on average during the 2021/2022 school year at the time of applying (excluding COVID-related school closures)
